Instagram Hiding Likes, Will They Survived?

Instagram Hiding likes, yes, you’re not dreaming, according to Instagram official twitter (you can find it here). They’re running the test to hide the post likes in Australia, Brazil, Canada, Ireland, Italy, Japan, and New Zealand. Now it’s been 3 months since they test it, and it seems to get closer to us the rest of the world now. Do you think Instagram hiding likes will bring Instagram down?

Here’s how it looks like.

Here is Instagram official statement on Twitter:

“We want your friends to focus on the photos and videos you share, not how many likes they get. You can still see your own likes by tapping on the list of people who’ve liked it, but your friends will not be able to see how many likes your post has received.”

Before Instagram Hiding Likes, What is the Main Function of Likes?

Likes on Instagram is the tool used to understand better what user want. The more likes on a post, the more relevant the content is, the more time spent on the app. Having content that makes people stay on your social media site is crucial. That’s why likes are vital as data for Instagram to measure engagement.

But, nowadays, Instagram used other data besides likes to analyze the kind of content the user enjoyed. How much the amount of time spent looking at content, how often we watch account stories and other data that is undisclosed by Instagram.

When Instagram hiding Likes, Will Like still relevant?

When did the last time you scroll on Instagram? How many seconds did you spend looking at a post? Four seconds? three-second? Or less?. Which is outrageously short. And the trend is getting lower and lower over the years.

Based on economy theories about scarcity. It could mean that like are worth more. Since someone tends to just scroll without liking something.

If Instagram hiding likes, I assume, people will scroll more and like less. Because there will be no social pressure (and that’s for another discussion). Only you and the content creator who knows that you liked their photo or not. Because there’s no point in showing everyone that you liked them if Instagram hides it. However, it benefits Instagram by explaining what the user truly liked.

When Instagram hiding likes, likes will be perceived as useless, which means better mental health and less clickbait content.

Worry not, you don’t need to panic, especially Micro-Influencer, it’s time to shine. Instagram likes will be more critical. If you get a lot of like even when Instagram hiding likes, it will show Instagram how good your content is and push your content more.

If you can persuade your follower to engage and likes more, more likely they’ll get used to it and keep doing it later on when Instagram hiding likes.

Some people will try improving their acquisition strategy towards gaining more followers. Yes, because Instagram is hiding likes, not a follower. But if you have high engagement, many followers will follow.

Besides, engagement is one of the fundamental indicators of how ‘influence worthy’ someone is and still will be the primary indicator of how relevant your content to your audience.
